Publication: Basit Makineler Konusunda Kavram Karikatürü Destekli 5e Modelinin Akademik Başarı ve Kavram Yanılgısına Etkisi
Abstract
Bu araştırma 'basit makineler' konularında kavram karikatürüyle hazırlanan 5E modelinin kavram yanılgısı ve akademik başarıya olan etkisini incelemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Araştırmada yarı deneysel araştırma yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Bu kapsamda sekizinci sınıf öğrencilerinin akademik başarı ve kavram yanılgısına etkisini araştırmak amacıyla basit makineler ünitesinde kavram karikatürüyle hazırlanan 5E modeli uygulanmıştır. 2020-2021 eğitim-öğretim döneminde Samsun ili, Bafra ilçesinde yer alan bir ortaokulda sekizinci sınıfta okuyan, gelişigüzel örnekleme yöntemi ile seçilen iki şubedeki toplam 22 öğrenci araştırmanın örneklemini oluşturmuştur. Araştırma pandemi döneminde gerçekleştirildiği için çalışılan öğrenci sayısı 22 ile sınırlı kalmıştır. Deney ve kontrol grubu olmak üzere her iki grupta ayrı ayrı 11 öğrenci yer almıştır. Kontrol grubundaki öğrencilere 'basit makineler' ünitesi, mevcut öğretim programının uygulandığı geleneksel anlatım yöntemi uygulanmış, deney grubunda yer alan öğrencilere ise kavram karikatürü desteğiyle hazırlanan 5E modelinin kullanıldığı anlatım yöntemi uygulanmıştır. Deney ve kontrol grubunda yer alan öğrencilere çalışmaya başlamadan önce ve çalışma tamamlandıktan sonra 'Basit Makineler Kavram Yanılgı Testi' ve 'Basit Makineler Ünitesi Başarı Testi' uygulanmıştır. Elde edilen verilerin analizinde SPSS 22.0 veri analiz programı kullanılmıştır. Araştırmaya katılan öğrencilerin ön-son test puanlarına ilişkin sonuçlara ulaşmak amacıyla tanımlayıcı istatistiklerden yararlanılmıştır. Grupların ön-son test puanları arasındaki farklılıkları belirlemek amacıyla ise bağımsız gruplar t testi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın sonucunda test puanları arasındaki farklılıklar değerlendirildiğinde deney grubu öğrencilerinin kontrol grubundaki öğrencilere göre akademik başarı düzeylerinde önemli bir artış olduğu, kavram yanılgılarının anlamlı düzeyde düştüğü gözlemlenmiştir. Kontrol grubunda yer alan öğrencilerin test sonuçlarında akademik başarı düzeylerinde ve kavram yanılgılarında anlamlı bir farklılık bulunmadığı tespit edilmiştir. Elde edilen verilerin sekizinci sınıf basit makineler konusunda kavram karikatürü ile hazırlanmış 5E modeli uygulamasının öğrencilerin akademik başarı düzeylerini artırdığını aynı zamanda kavram yanılgılarının da azalmasına katkı sağladığını göstermiştir. This research was conducted to examine the effect of the 5E model prepared with a concept cartoon on misconceptions and academic success in 'simple machines' subjects. Quasi-experimental research method was used in the research. In this context, the 5E model prepared with a concept cartoon was applied in the simple machines unit in order to investigate its effect on eighth grade students' academic success and misconceptions. A total of 22 students from two branches selected by random sampling method, studying in the eighth grade at a secondary school in Bafra district of Samsun province during the 2020-2021 academic year, constituted the sample of the study. Since the research was conducted during the pandemic period, the number of students studied was limited to 22. There were 11 students separately in both groups: experimental and control groups. The 'simple machines' unit explanation method, in which the current curriculum was applied, was applied to the students in the control group, and the 5E model prepared with the support of concept cartoons was applied to the students in the experimental group. 'Simple Machines Misconception Test' and 'Simple Machines Unit Achievement Test' were applied to the students in the experimental and control groups before starting the study and after the study was completed. SPSS 22.0 data analysis program was used to analyze the data obtained. Descriptive statistics were used to reach results regarding the pre-post test scores of the students participating in the research. Independent groups t-test were used to determine the differences between the pre-post test scores of the groups. As a result of the study, when the differences between the test scores were evaluated, it was observed that there was a significant increase in the academic success levels of the experimental group students compared to the control group students, and that their misconceptions decreased significantly. It was determined that there was no significant difference in the test results of the control group students in terms of academic success levels and misconceptions. The data obtained showed that the application of the 5E model prepared with concept cartoons on simple machines increased the academic success levels of eighth grade students and also contributed to the reduction of misconceptions.
