Soil Erosion at Local Environment; Effects and Prevention: A Case Study from Samsun
The Soruk River, together with those of other parts of southern Kunduz Mountain has annual soil losses yields (117.429 t/ per year). The major factors controlling sediment production, considered in the present study, are slope, lithology, landforms, vegetation, and drainage density. Most of the load is found to be transported at the beginning of the wet season, with probably high inputs within a few days following heavy rain and sudden snow melt. In addition to, primary cause-the topography- erosion is aggravated by human activities, such as deforestation, cultivation and overgrazing. Environmental degradation and disasters are very closely linked in this area. The principal results of the researches on erosion in the Soruk River watershed are summarized and related problems are shortly discussed in the paper.
