Objective: To compare the incidence of dentinal defect after root canal preparation using the Revo-S, ProTaper Next and Twisted File Adaptive NiTi files in mandibular incisor teeth. Material and Methods: 120 mandibular incisor teeth with mature apices and straight canals were included to the present study. 30 teeth were left unprepared (negative control group) and the remaining 90 teeth were assigned to the three root canal shaping groups (n30): ProTaper Next (PTN), Revo-S and TF Adaptive (TFA). All the roots were sectioned perpendicular to the long axis at 3, 6 and 9 mm from the apex with a low-speed saw under water-cooling. The slices were then viewed through a stereomicroscope at 25x magnification. The presence of dentinal cracks was determined by photographing all samples using a digital camera. The obtained data were statistically analyzed by chi-square test (p0.05). Results: There were statistically difference between experimental groups and the control group according to the dentinal defect incidence (p0.05). TFA group showed statistically less dentinal defect than the PTN and RevoS groups (p0.05). There were no correlation between the defect incidence and the level of the dentin slice (p0.05). Conclusion: According to the results of the present study, all the tested NiTi files created dentinal defects. TFA group showed statistically less dentinal defect than the PTN and Revo-S groups.
