Parion Roma Kolonizasyon Sikkeleri

Abstract

Parion antik kentinde gerçekleştirilen kazı çalışmaları sonucunda ortaya çıkarılan çok sayı- da sikkeden kondüsyonu nispeten yüksek olan, Parionun Roma kolonizasyonuyla ilgili sikkeler bu çalışmada kullanılmıştır. Bu sikkeler ikonografik ve lejand olarak değerlendirildi- ğinde; Pariona, Roma Döneminde, ilki Augustus, ikincisi Hadrianus tarafından olmak üzere iki kez koloni statüsü verildiği anlaşılmaktadır. Augustus döneminde yapılan koloni hareketi, Roma ordusundan emekli iki veteran legion ordusuna Parion antik kentinde toprak sağlama amacı, Hadrianus döneminde ise kente tekrar koloni statüsü verilerek kenti onurlandırma amacı güdülmüştür. Bunun yanında Parion kentinin darbettiği sikkeleri üzerinde görülen tipler, Roma İmparatorluğunun koloni politikaları ile örtüşmekte ve Parion antik kentine verdiği önemi gözler önüne sermektedir. Sikkelerin arkalarında yer alan 5 farklı tip, kentin kolonizasyonuyla ilgili olup; her tip Romanın kolonizasyon politikaları içinde anlam taşımaktadır. Çalışmada Roma kolonizasyon politikaları değerlendirilmiş, Parionun bu kolonizasyon politikaları içerisindeki önemi vurgulanmış ve birtakım sorunlara yönelik çözümler ve görüşler ileri sürülmüştür

In this article, Roman colonization coins which were of relatively high condition compared to many other coins unearthed and which were found during the mentioned excavations in Parion were used. When these coins were evaluated in terms of iconography and legend, it is realised that Parion was colonized twice by the Roman Empire during the reigns of Augustus and Hadrian. In the first colonization process during the reign of Augustus, it was aimed to provide land for two veterans of legion army in Parion, and in the second colonization process during the reign of Hadrian, it was aimed to honour the town by gaining it the status of a colony. The figures on the coins of Parion are compatible with general Roman Empire colonization policies and show the significance the Empire gives to Parion as a colony. The five different figures on the backside of the coins are related to the colonization of the town and each one of them is significant as far as the Roman colonization policies are concerned. In the article, Roman colonization policies are evaluated, significance of Parion in these processes is emphasized and some solutions and suggestions are offered in relation with various issues and problems.
