| en_US |
dc.description.abstract | Aim: Gastroesophageal Reflux (GOR), the involuntary passage of gastric contents into the oesophagus, is a common feature of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GORD). The clinical term dental erosion is used to describe the physical result of a pathologic, chronic, localized, painless loss of dental hard tissue chemically etched away from the tooth surface by acid without bacterial involvement. Gastric acid reaching the oral cavity as a result of gastroesophageal reflux can also cause dental erosion. Dental erosion was associated with Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease. The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship between reflux and dental erosion. Subjects and Method: II subjects with GORD subjects participated in the present study. Dental erosion were recorded in questionnaire form and classified according to Smith and Knight. Results: In the present study, the erosions were located mainly on the palatal surfaces of the teeth in maxilla and the incisal and occlusal surfaces of the mandibular teeth. Conclusion: No direct correlations were found between the severity of the erosion and the duration of GOR symptoms or the frequency of reflux. | en_US |
