The Effect of Portfolio Assessment Application on Academic Achievement and Test Anxiety in Teaching Animal Tissue

Abstract

Bu çalışmada, fen bilgisi öğretmenliği programı Genel Biyololoji-I ve Genel Biyoloji Laboratuvarı-I ders içeriğinde yer alan hayvansal dokuların öğrenilmesinde portfolyo uygulamasının öğrenci başarısı üzerine etkisi incelenmiştir. Bu amaçla Samsun ili içerisindeki bir üniversitenin Fen Bilgisi Öğretmenliği 2.sınıf öğrencilerine portfolyo uygulaması yapılmıştır. A ve B şubeleri olmak üzere rasgele seçilen 28 kontrol ve 29 deney grubundan oluşan öğrencilere çoktan ve doğru-yanlış sorularından oluşan başarı testi ön test ve son test olarak uygulanmıştır. Ayrıca uygulamalar tamamlandıktan sonra, öğrencilere genel sınav kaygıları ile ilgili görüşlerinin alındığı bir sınav kaygı ölçeği uygulanmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda, gerek öğretim, gerekse ölçme ve değerlendirme süreci içerisinde portfolyo uygulamasının öğretmen adaylarının başarı düzeylerini artırmada ve sınav kaygısını azaltmada olumlu etkilerinin olduğu belirlenmiştir.

In this study, the effect of portfolio assessment application on student success in teaching animal tissue covered in General Biology 1 and General Biology Laboratory 1 courses in Science and Technology Education curriculum was investigated. For this purpose, portfolio assessment application was administered to the second grade students who were attending Education Faculty, Science and Technology Education Department. A multiple choice achievement test was applied as pre-test and post-test to control (n28) and experimental group (n29) students who were randomly chosen from A and B class. Additionally, a test anxiety scale was applied to the students to obtain their opinions about test anxiety. Research results revealed that portfolio assessment application has positive effects on improving the success level of teacher candidates and reducing their test anxiety level in both education process and assessment and evaluation processes. Study results also revealed that portfolio assessment may be effective in teaching subjects too
