The Role of Hope and Negatıve Thoughts in Predıctıng Eatıng Attıtudes

Abstract

Araştırmanın amacı, üniversite öğrencilerinin yeme tutumlarını yordamada umut ve olumsuz düşüncelerin rolünü incelemektir. Çalışma 2016-201 eğitim öğretim yılı bahar döneminde Ondokuz Mayıs Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi nin çeşitli bölümlerinde okuyan 250 (% 1. ) si kadın, 100 (%28.6) ü erkek olmak üzere toplam 50 öğrenci ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmanın verileri "Yeme Tutumu Testi", "Sürekli Umut Ölçeği" ve "Otomatik Düşünceler Ölçeği" ile toplanmıştır. Araştırmadan elde edilen verilerin öncelikle normal dağılıma uygun olup olmadığı KolmogorovSmirnov uyum iyiliği testi ile incelenmiş (p0.05), verilerin normal dağılım göstermediği görüldüğünden parametrik olmayan Spearman s Korelasyon katsayısı, Mann-Whitney U-Testi, Kruskal-Wallis ?2 testi ve çoklu doğrusal regresyon analizi teknikleri kullanılmıştır. Analizler sonucunda öğrencilerin yeme tutumu puan ortalamasının 1 .22, sürekli umut puan ortalamasının .2 ve otoma k düşünceler puan ortalamasının ise 5 . 1 olduğu bulunmuştur. Bunun yanı sıra umut ile olumsuz otomatik düşünceler puanları arasında negatif yönde orta düzeyde anlamlı (r - 0. 2 , p0.01), yeme tutumu ile umut arasında pozitif yönde anlamsız (r 0.0 5, p0.05) bir ilişki ve yine yeme tutumu ile olumsuz düşünceler arasında anlamsız (r 0.056, p0.05) bir ilişki belirlenmiştir. Yeme tutumu puanını açıklayan değişkenleri belirlemek amacı ile yapılan çoklu doğrusal regresyon analizi sonucunda yeme alışkanlığının yeme tutumuna etkisi 2.66 birim artmaktadır. Orta ekonomik düzey ile yeme alışkanlığının yeme tutumlarının yordanmasına katkısı olduğu görülmektedir

The aim of this study is to examine the role of hope and negative thoughts in predicting eating attitudes. The study was conducted with 350 students attending different departments in Ondokuz Mayıs University, Education Faculty during the 2016-2017 academic year. Among the participants, 250 (71.4%) were female while 100 (28.6%) were male. The study data was collected by means of the “Eating Attitude Test,” the “State Hope Scale” and the “Automatic Thoughts Scale.” The study data was first analyzed using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov goodness of fit test to check if it was suitable for a normal distribution (p0.05), and since the data did not show a normal range, the nonparametric Spearman correlation coefficient, Mann-Whitney U-Test, Kruskal-Wallis ?2 test and mul -linear regression analysis techni ues were applied in the study. To the analysis results, the par cipants average score of ea ng a tude was 1 .22 state hope score average was .2 and average score of automa c thoughts was 59.31. Additionally, there was a negative, significant and medium relation between hope and negative automatic thoughts scores (r-0.324, p0.01), a positive and insignificant relation between eating attitude and hope (r0.045, p0.05) and a negative relation between eating attitude and negative thoughts (r0.056, p0.05). To the multi-linear regression analysis which was applied to reveal the variables explaining the eating attitude scores, eating habit s effect to eating attitude was 2.66 units. A medium level of economic status and eating habits were found to contribute to predict the eating attitude
