In this review article; history of local anesthetics beginning with "cocaine", general effect mechanism, chemical structure, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamical properties of local anesthetics were described. Mechanism, symptoms and treatment of the systemic toxic effect caused by local anesthetics were explained.
