Bertrand Russell'in eğitime ilişkin görüşlerinin incelenmesi

Abstract

Eğitim, üzerinde hassasiyetle durulması gereken bir meseledir. Çünkü o, bir toplumun gelişmesinde ve kalkınmasında önemli bir yere sahiptir. Bu nedenle sağlam temeller üzerine kurulu bir eğitim sistemi gereklidir. Böyle bir eğitim sistemi olmadıkça toplumsal huzurdan ve gelişmişlik düzeyinden bahsedilmesi zor olacaktır. Bu tez çalışmasında 20. yüzyılın en ünlü filozoflarından biri olan İngiliz filozof Bertrand Russell’ın eğitime ilişkin görüşleri ele alınıp değerlendirilmeye çalışılmıştır. Russell, tüm eğitimin sevgi ve bilgi temelinde ele alınması durumunda toplumun değişeceğini ve gelişeceğini savunmaktadır. Çalışmada ilk olarak Russell’ın hayatı ve genel felsefesi hakkında genel bir bilgi verildi. Ardından Russell’ın eğitimin amacını belirlemede nasıl bir yol izlediği ortaya konmaya çalışıldı. Bu amaç doğrultusunda Russell’ın yanıt aradığı sorunun “Nasıl bir insan yetiştirmeliyiz?” sorusu olduğu söylenebilir. Çalışmamızın birinci ve ikinci bölümünde bu soru üzerinden yola çıkarak Russell’ın eğitim ile ilgili görüşleri ortaya konmaya çalışıldı. Birinci bölümde karakter eğitimi konu başlığı altında, ideal insanda bulunması gereken karakter özellikleri ele alındı. Eğitime başlamak için ilk yaşların öneminden bahsettikten sonra korku, oyun ve düş gücü, yapıcılık, eşitlik, doğruluk, disiplin ve ceza gibi kavramlar açıklandı. İkinci bölümde, temel eğitim çağındaki bir çocukta bulunması gereken özellikler incelendi. Ayrıca bu bölümde, ilk, orta ve yüksek öğretimde, eğitimin içeriğinin ve amaçlarının ne/nasıl olması gerektiği konusu araştırıldı. Üçüncü ve son bölümde ise, Russell’ın genel felsefi sisteminde önemli bir yer tutan dünya barışına ve dünya devletine ilişkin görüşleri ele alındı ve eğitimin bunlarla olan ya da olması gereken ilişkileri irdelendi. Netice olarak, yapmış olduğumuz çalışmada, eğitimin Russell’ın felsefi sisteminin önemli bir ögesi olduğu ve onun, gerek eğitimin içeriğine gerek amaçlarına ilişkin görüşlerinin yer yer çağının sınırlarını aşan, günümüz insanı için ilham kaynağı olacak nitelikte yenilikçi ve ufuk açıcı olduğu sonucuna vardık. Russell’a göre, insanlığın bir bütün olarak evrilmesi ve gelişmesi isteniyorsa, eğitime gereken önem ve değer verilmelidir. Ama daha da önemlisi eğitim bu amaca uygun bir şekilde yeniden yapılandırılmalıdır. Bu yapılandırmanın temelini ise, bilimsellik, akılcılık, sevgi ve barış oluşturmalıdır.

Education is an issue that needs to be carefully considered. Because it has a significant place in the development and progress of a society. For this reason, an education system built on solid foundations is necessary. Unless there is such an education system, it will be challenging to talk about social tranquility and development. In this thesis, the views of the British philosopher Bertrand Russell, one of the most famous philosophers of the 20th century, on education were discussed and evaluated. Russell argues that society will change and develop if education rises on the basis of love and knowledge. The study firstly provided general knowledge of Russell's life and philosophy. It was attempted to explain how Russell followed the path of determining the purpose of education. For this purpose, the question Russell seeks to answer is "What kind of a person should we raise? In the first and second parts of our study, Russell's views on education were tried to be revealed based on this question. In the first chapter, under the title of character education, the character traits that should be found in an ideal person were discussed. After talking about the importance of initial years to start education, concepts such as fear, play and imagination,constructive, equality, truth, discipline and punishment were explained. In the second part, the characteristics that should be found in a child at the age of essential education were examined. In addition, in this section, the subject of what/how the content and aims of education should be in primary, secondary and higher education was investigated. In the third and last part, Russell's views on world peace and the world state, which have a significant place in his general philosophical system, were discussed and the relations of education with them or should be examined. As a result, in our study, we concluded that education was an important element of Russell's philosophical system, and that his views on both the content and aims of education are innovative and visionary, which are sometimes beyond the limits of his era and will be a source of inspiration for today's people. According to Russell, education should be given the necessary importance and value if humanity as a whole is to evolve and develop. But more importantly, education should be restructured in accordance with this purpose. This structure should be established on the foundation of scientificity, rationality, love and peace.
