Samsun Müzesi’nden bir grup amphora

Abstract

“Antik Dönemlerde” tarım ürünlerinin korunması ve taşınması amacı ile çeşitli kap türleri üretilmiştir. Bu kap türlerinden en çok tercih edilenlerden biri de amphoralardır. Başlangıçta tek tip üretilen amphoralar, ticaretin gelişmesi ve taşınan malzemelerin çeşitlenmesi ile birlikte çeşitli formlarda üretilmişlerdir. Erken Tunç Çağı’ndan Bizans Dönemine kadar varlığını sürdüren bu amphoralar, büyük bir alana yayılım göstermiştir. Bunun neticesinde, birçok bölgede amphora üretim merkezleri kurulmuştur. Samsun Müzesi envanterine kayıtlı çok sayıda amphora bulunmaktadır. Bu amphoralar 11 üretim merkezi altında değerlendirilerek katalog çalışması yapılmış, eserlerin tanımlanması sağlanmıştır. Bu üretim merkezlerinin Khios, Rhodos, Knidos, Klazomenai, Lesbos, Samos, Thasos, Mende, Kholkis, Sinope ve Ganos olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Çalışmaya konu amphoraların üretildikleri yeri tespit etmek ve bir kronoloji oluşturmak oldukça güç olmakla birlikte, benzer örneklerle karşılaştırma yoluna gidilerek tarihlendirilmeye çalışılmış ve eserlerin tamamının MÖ 6. yüzyıldan MS 6. yüzyıla kadar devam ettiği saptanmıştır. Yapılan araştırmalar sonucunda elde edilen sonuçlarla mevcut literatüre katkı sağlanması hedeflenmiştir.

Various types of containers were produced for the pur pose of protecting and transporting agricultural products in an cient times. One of the most preferred types of vessels is ampho rae. Originally produced uniformly, amphorae were produced in various forms with the development of trade and the diversifica tion of transported materials. These amphoras, which existed from the Early Bronze Age to the Byzantine Period, spread over a large area. As a result, amphora production centers have been estab lished in many regions. There are many amphorae registered in the inventory of Samsun Museum. These amphorae were evaluated un der 11 production centers and catalog studies were made and the description of the works was achieved. It has been determined that these production centers are Chios, Rhodos, Knidos, Klazomenai, Lesbos, Samos, Thasos, Mende, Kholkis, Sinope and Ganos. Alt hough it is very difficult to determine the place where the ampho ras were produced and to create a chronology, it was tried to be dated by comparing them with similar examples and it was found that all the works continued from the 6th cen tury BC to the 6th century AD. It is aimed to con tribute to the existing literature with the results obtained as a result of the researches.
