Results with the posteromedial release for congenital club foot

However the ethology, the pathologic anatomy and the treatment of congenital club foot is still discussible, the aim of treatment is to reduce or to remove the deformities and to ensure one having functional, painless and anatomic foot that entails no modifiable boot. In Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology Faculty of Medicine Ondokuz Mayis University, from September 1981 through June 1995, 56 patients with congenital club foot that no replied to conservative treatment and posteromedial loosening operation applied were reviewed retrospectively by taking their clinical and radiologic findings determined in pre and post operation period into consideration. The functional evaluation of cases according to McKay Proportional System and radiologic evaluation according to Kite Criterions were performed. 47 (83.9%) of the cases that posteromedial loosening applied was found adequate and 9 (16.1%) of them inadequate. These results accord with the results of complete subtalar loosening in literature.
