Tc-99m DMSA renal scan in polyarteritis nodosa with bilateral intraparenchymal renal artery aneurysms

Polyarteritis nodosa is a multisystemic disorder that results in various signs and symptoms depending on the specific site of the blood vessel involved. The disease affects the kidneys in 70% of cases, sometimes with aneurysm formation, which can result in perirenal and intrarenal bleeding. The authors describe a patient with polyarteritis nodosa with multiple bilateral aneurysmal dilatations confirmed by angiography. The Tc-99m DMSA renal scan revealed bilateral intraparenchymal photopenic areas mimicking polycystic renal disease.
