Bis[2-(2-pyridylamino)pyridinium] squarate dihydrate

Abstract

In the title compound, 2C(10)H(10)N(3)(+)center dot C4O42-center dot 2H(2)O, the squarate dianion is centrosymmetric. The organic cation shows an unusual, approximately symmetrical, intramolecular N center dot center dot center dot H center dot center dot center dot N hydrogen bond. The other hydrogen bonds are conventional N-H center dot center dot center dot O and O-H center dot center dot center dot O links, resulting in chains.
