Abstract
This study was conducted in order to determine the adaptation characteristics of Akkeçi goats (Saanen x Kilis cross) under the Ondokuz Mayıs University conditions. In this study, reproduction traits were found as 2.94 % for abortion rate, 1.15 for kid number per birth, 79.4 % for single birth rate and 17.6 % for twin birth rate, respectively. Survival rate of the experimental herd was determined as 87.2 %. Average milk yield for this population was found as 162.83 kg. At 1st year, birth weights were 2.31, 3.58, 2.03 and 1.50 kg; weaning weights (2 month) were 8.90, 9.69, 8.15 and 7.00 kg; weights at 4 month were 13.60, 14.35, 12.71 and 12.10 kg; weights at 6 month were 17.69, 19.03, 17.28, - kg for single females, single males, twin females and twin males, respectively. At 2nd year, birth weights were 2.12, 2.32, 2.74 and 1.00 kg; weaning weights were 8.13, 8.35, 8.07 and 6.80 kg; weights at 4 month were 13.14, 14.26, 12.64 and 11.25 kg; weights at 6 month were 17.68, 19.75, 16.80 and 14.30 kg for single females, single males, twin females and twin males, respectively. According to the analysis of variance, there was no difference between years in terms of milk yield and liveweights (P>0.05). The results obtained from this study showed that Akkeçi type goats are reasonably well adapted to the Ondokuz Mayıs University conditions. Key Words: Akkeçi, adaptation characteristics, reproduction traits, milk yield, body weight.
