Abstract

This study was carried out in surface waters taken from one station selected at the largest place of reservoir in Derbent Dam Lake. In the collected waters, totally 16 parameters were analyzed. Thus, water quality and production potential concerning aquaculture were determined in the lake. During the study, average temperature 15.56°C, dissolved oxygen 10.68 mg L -1, pH 7.9, conductivity 1525 μS cm -1, total alkalinity 163.8 mg L -1 and total hardness 377.3 mg L -1 were determined in the surface waters of the lake. In addition, it was determined that the dissolved cations are Na +>Ca ++>Mg ++>K +>Fe ++>NH4 +-N and also dissolved anions are SO <inf>4</inf>=>Cl - >NO <inf>3-</inf>-N>NO <inf>2-</inf>-N. Once the findings of the physical and chemical analyses were compared, it is seen that Derbent Dam Lake has an oligotroph-mesotroph lake character. In terms of these results, the water of Dam Lake generally has a convenient habitat with regard to aquaculture.
