The Idea of Immortality in Muhammad Iqbal

Abstract

Ölümsüzlük inancı, insanın kişiliğini, eylemlerini, düşüncesini ve ölüm sonrasına dair umut ve özlemini belirler. Bu nedenle ölümsüzlük düşüncesi, düşünce tarihi boyunca birçok düşünür tarafından tartışılmıştır. Her düşünür kendi düşünce ve inanç sistemi çerçevesinde ölümsüzlük konusundaki düşüncelerini izah eder. İkbal, bu konuda düşüncelerini ileri süren önemli düşünürlerden biridir. Doğrusu biz, İkbal'in eserlerine özel atıfla, bu çalışmamızda bir yandan İkbal'in ölümsüzlük düşüncesinin özünü, özgünlüğünü, önemini ve değerini, öte yandan ölümsüzlük düşüncesinin seyrini anlatmaya, böylelikle de düşünce tarihi alanına yeni bir çalışmayla katkı sağlamaya çalıştık. Çalışmamızın Giriş'inde, çalışmada öngörülen sorun, hipotez, amaç, önem, yöntem ve kapsam; İkbal'in hayatı, eserleri ve din felsefesinde ölümsüzlük düşüncesinin önemi ve ölümsüzlük probleminin felsefî ve teolojik ardalanı ele alındı. Birinci Bölüm'de ben, benlik ve Tanrı kavramlarının ölümsüzlük ile olan ilişkisi tartışıldı. İkinci Bölüm'de İkbal'in ölüm konusundaki görüşleri, kişisel benin ölümden sonra varlığını nasıl koruduğu, bu konuyla doğrudan ilişkili olan yeniden yaratılış öğretisinin önemi ve berzah problemi ele alındı. Üçüncü Bölüm'de ise İkbal'in ölümsüzlük düşüncesi ile zaman kavramı arasındaki ilişki, kazanılan ölümsüzlük, ölümsüzlüğün bir kanıtı olarak ahlâkî zorunluluk ve materyalist düşünceye yönelik eleştirilerin yapısı ve gücü irdelenerek bir sonuca gidilmeye çalışılmıştır.

The belief of immortality determines the human personality, actions, thought, hope and longing for after death. For this reason, the idea of immortality has been discussed by many thinkers throughout the history of thought. Each thinker explains the idea of immortality within his own thought and belief system. Iqbal is one of the most important thinkers who discusses this problem. In fact, with a specific reference to Ikbal's works, we have tried to explain the nature, originality, importance and value of Iqbal's idea of immortality on one hand, and the development of it on the other. So, we believe that we have tried to contribute to the field of the history of thought with a new work. In the Introduction of our study, problem, hypothesis, goal, importance, method and scope of the work, Iqbal's life and his works, the importance of the idea of immortality in religion philosophy and the philosophical and theological background of this problem have been discussed. In the First Chapter, ego, self, God and their relations to the idea of immortality have been addressed. In the Second Chapter, Iqbal's views about death, how personal self is preserved after death, the importance of the faith of recreation which is directly related to this topic and problem of berzah have been examined. In the Third Chapter, we have tried to reach a conclusion by dicussing relationship between Iqbal's idea of immortality and his understanding of time, the gained immortality, moral obligation as proof of immortality and the structure of the criticism against the materialist thought.
