Ortaokul Öğrencilerinin Geri Dönüşüme İlişkin Algıları

Abstract

2021-2022 eğitim-öğretim yılında uygulaması yapılan bu çalışma, ortaokul 5., 6., 7. ve 8. sınıf öğrencilerinin geri dönüşüm kavramına ilişkin oluşturdukları metaforlar ve çizimler aracılığıyla algılarını ortaya koymak amacıyla yapılmıştır. Samsun ilinin merkez ilçelerinde 6 devlet okulunda gerçekleştirilen bu çalışmanın örneklemi, maksimum çeşitlilik örnekleme yöntemine göre belirlenmiştir. Öğrencilere 'Geri dönüşüm … gibidir. Çünkü …' şeklinde boşluk doldurma ile geri dönüşüme ilişkin metafor üretmeleri istenmiştir. Bunun yanında öğrencilerden geri dönüşüm kavramının anımsattıklarıyla ilgili çizim yapmaları da istenmiştir. Araştırma, nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden olgubilim (fenomenoloji) deseninde yapılmış olup verilerin analiz edilmesinde içerik analizi tekniği kullanılmıştır. Ortaokul öğrencileri geri dönüşüme ilişkin toplam 421 metafor oluşturmuşlar ve 438 çizim yapmışlardır. Buna göre toplanan veriler, benzerlikleri dikkate alınarak sınıflandırılmış ve uygun kategoriler oluşturulmuştur. Metaforlar doğrultusunda 'geri dönüşüm atıkları tekrar kullanılabilir hale getirir', 'geri dönüşüm atık miktarını azaltarak kirliliği önler', 'geri dönüşüm doğal unsurların korunmasını sağlar', 'geri dönüşüm ülke ekonomisine fayda sağlar' ve 'geri dönüşüm yaşamın devam etmesini sağlar' kategorileri oluşturulmuştur. Öğrenciler tarafından yapılan çizimler doğrultusunda 'geri dönüştürülebilen atıklar', 'çöpe değil, geri dönüşüme', 'geri dönüşüm muhteşem olacak', 'doğa dostu geri dönüşüm', 'temiz çevre için geri dönüşüm' ve 'geri dönüşüm logosu' kategorileri oluşturulmuştur. Ortaokul öğrencileri tarafından geri dönüşüme ilişkin en çok yenilemek, temizlik, tasarruf, yeni ürün üretmek ve koruyucu metaforları oluşturulmuştur. Çizimlere göre öğrencilerin geri dönüşümü; geri dönüştürülebilen atıklar aracılığıyla ifade ettikleri görülmüştür. Çizimlerde sık sık geri dönüşüm logosuna yer verilmesi, öğrencilerin geri dönüşüm logosunu bildiklerini ve benimsediklerini ortaya çıkarmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda; geri dönüşümün 'atıkları geri dönüştürdükten sonra tekrar kullanılabilir hale getirdiğini' en çok 8. sınıf öğrencileri belirtmiştir. Ayrıca bu araştırmada öğrencilerin geri dönüşümü; 'atıkların tekrar kullanılmasını sağlayan', 'çöpleri toplayan ve temizleyen', 'doğayı koruyan' ve 'ekonomik fayda sağlayan' bir süreç olarak algıladıkları da tespit edilmiştir. Öğrencilerin derslerde geri dönüşüm ile ilgili öğrendiklerini uygulamaları için sınıf dışı etkinliklerin arttırılması önerilebilir.

This study, which was implemented in the 2021-2022 academic year, was conducted to reveal the perceptions of secondary school 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade students through metaphors and drawings about the concept of recycling. The sample of this study, which was carried out in 6 public schools in the central districts of Samsun, was determined according to the maximum diversity sampling method. 'Recycling is like …. Because …' They were asked to produce a metaphor about recycling by filling in the blanks. In addition, the students were asked to make drawings about what the concept of recycling reminded of them. The research was carried out in the pattern of phenomenology, one of the qualitative research methods, and content analysis technique was used in the analysis of the data. Secondary school students created a total of 421 metaphors about recycling and made 438 drawings. Accordingly, the collected data were classified taking into account their similarities and appropriate categories were created. In line with metaphors, categories such as 'recycling makes waste reusable', 'recycling prevents pollution by reducing the amount of waste', 'recycling ensures the protection of natural elements', 'recycling benefits the country's economy' and 'recycling ensures the continuation of life' were created. . In line with the drawings made by the students, the categories of 'recyclable waste', 'recycling, not garbage', 'recycling will be amazing', 'nature-friendly recycling', 'recycling for a clean environment' and 'recycling logo' were created. Renewal, cleaning, saving, producing new products and protective metaphors were mostly created by secondary school students. Recycling of students according to drawings; It has been observed that they are expressed through recyclable wastes. The frequent use of the recycling logo in the drawings revealed that the students knew and adopted the recycling logo. As a result of the research; 8th grade students stated that recycling 'makes wastes reusable after recycling'. In addition, the recycling of students in this research; It has also been determined that they perceive it as a process that 'enables the reuse of waste', 'collects and cleans garbage', 'protects nature' and 'provides economic benefits'. It can be recommended to increase extra-class activities so that students can apply what they have learned about recycling in lessons.
