Ortaokul Matematik Öğretmenlerinin Model Oluşturma Süreçlerinin İncelenmesi

Abstract

Bu araştırma, ortaokul matematik öğretmenlerinin model oluşturma süreçlerinin incelenmesi ve bu süreçlerde karşılaşılan güçlükleri ortaya çıkarmayı amaçlamaktadır. Araştırma, Karadeniz Bölgesinde bulunan bir ilimizde Milli Eğitim Bakanlığına bağlı farklı ortaokullarda görev yapan ve daha önce Matematik Öğretiminde Modelleme dersini almış üç öğretmeni kapsamaktadır. Oluşturulan bu odak gruba iki farklı model oluşturma etkinliği olan Kablo Makarası Problemi ve Uçağa Binme Problemi verilerek üzerinde çalışmaları istenmiş ve tüm süreç video ile kayıt altına alınmıştır. Daha sonra öğretmenlerin model oluşturma sürecinde geliştirdikleri matematiksel düşünceleri ve ortaya koydukları yazılı cevaplar Ferri (2006)'nin teorik çerçevesi kullanılarak nitel olarak analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma sonuçları modelleme dersi almış olan ortaokul matematik öğretmenlerinin model oluşturma süreçleri olan problemi anlama, basitleştirme ve yapılandırma, matematikleştirme, matematiksel işlemlerle çalışma, yorumlama ve doğrulama süreçlerinde başarılı bir şekilde çalışabildiklerini ortaya koymuştur. Yapılan çalışma model oluşturma etkinlikleri yardımıyla verilen modelleme eğitimlerinin matematik öğretmenlerine oldukça faydalı olabileceğini gösteren önemli bir sonucu doğurmuştur.

This research aims to examine mathematical modeling processes of middle-school mathematics teachers and to reveal the difficulties encountered in these processes. The research study includes three teachers who worked in different middle-schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in a city of the Blacksea Region. All teachers have previously taken the course of Mathematical Modeling in Teaching. This focus group created was asked to work on two different model eliciting activities, Cable Roller Problem and Airplane Riding Problem, and the whole process was recorded with video. Then the mathematical ideas developed by the teachers in modeling process and their written answers were analyzed qualitatively by using the theoretical framework of Ferri (2006). The results of the research study revealed that middle school mathematics teachers who have taken modeling courses can successfully work in the processes of modeling, understanding the problem, simplification and structuring, mathematical operations, interpretation and verification. This study also showed that the mathematical modeling courses could be useful for mathematics teachers in teaching and learning mathematics.
