Abstract

Nowadays, the accelerating usage of water in industry and global warming is causing water sources to be exhausted. The industrial wastewaters have been changing the natural balance sometimes this is not to be reversible. The industrial wastewaters differentiate from domestic wastewaters in terms of character, amount and source. So the industrial wastewaters must be refined to prevent the natural water places. Textile industry, one of the biggest industries in Turkey, is extremely inconsistent in terms of practiced technology, usage of different raw materials and chemicals. The most remarkable feature of textile wastewaters is its containing high amount of organic and inorganic chemicals and As there are several methods and technologies used in this sector due to the different raw materials and various chemicals, the amount of organic carbon, the need of chemical oxygen and high density of color substance. The discharge of dyes into the receiving waters constitutes only a small portion of water pollution. However even the presence of very low concentrations of dyes in receiving waters is aesthetically undesirable. Therefore, treatment processes removing dyes from textile effluents have become important in order to conserve receiving waters. This study shows how waste foundry sands could be used as absorbent to eliminate color substances from textile effluents.
