Foreign body in the temporal region: Case report

Abstract

Temporal bölgede yabancı cisme rastlanması çok nadir görülen bir durumdur. Bu makalede Temporomandibular Eklemin (TME) Manyetik Rezonans (MR) Görüntülemesinde tesadüfen temporal kas içerisinde belirlenmiş olan, herhangi bir semptom vermeyen bir yabancı cisim vakasını sunmak istedik. Elli dört yaşındaki bayan hasta TME şikayetleri ve protez yenilenmesi isteği ile kliniğimize baş vurdu. Hastadan alınan amamnezde 10 yıl kadar önce karlı bir yolda yürürken sol temporal bölgesi üzerine düştüğü anlaşılmıştır.MR görüntülenmesi sırasında temporal bölgede zigomatik ark üzerinde metalik bir artifakt gözlendi. Radyoopak olan bu obje lateral kafa grafisinde 20 mm uzunluğundaydı. Klinik muayenede hastada herhangi bir ağrı, hassasiyet ve fistülformasyonu bulunmadığından konervatifbir tedavi önerildi. Hasta kontrol altına alındı.

Foreign body impaction is very rare in the temporal region. We document a case of a symptomless foreign body within the temporal muscle which was identified by coincidence during temporomandibular joint (TMJ) MR1 examination. The 54-year-old "woman was referred for a denture renewal and for TMJ symptoms. The patient history revealed that she had had a fall and received trauma over the left temporal region on a snowy road approximately 10 years ago. During the MRl scanning, a metallic artefact was noticed above the zygomatic arch in the temporal region. The radiopaque object was approximately 20 mm long on the lateral skull radiograph. As there was neither tenderness and no abnormal soft tissue consistency on palpation nor signs of infection including fistula formation on clinical examination, conservative management was recommended. The patient is now under long-term follow-up.
