Abstract

Pest oxidation phenomena is the major drawback of MoSi2 for the applications of this material over gas turbine elements. Therefore, addition of Si3N4 does not only eliminate the structural disintegration behaviour which can only be observed between relatively low temperatures (673-873 K) but also improves the fracture toughness at elevated temperatures. In this study, after giving some significant properties of MoSi2, effect of processing conditions to microstructural morphology and oxidation characteristics at gas turbine operating temperatures will be discussed within a composit approach. © (2011) Trans Tech Publications.
