Fatih-Harbiye üzerine yönsüz bir okuma: Mekân ve karakter sorunu

Abstract

Edebiyat araştırmalarında, Fatih-Harbiye yorumlamalarının genel olarak Doğu-Batı karşıtlığı üzerinden şekillendiği, bu okuma yönünün baskın bir yorumlama geleneği hâline geldiği görülür. Yorumların tek yönlü uzadığı bu eleştiri anlayışında romandaki mekân ve karakterlerin roman dışında genellikle zıtlık bağlamında düşünülen Doğu ve Batı'nın temsili olarak görülmesi, onları da keskin ikili karşıtlıklar üzerine kurulu bir anlayışla şematize edilerek düşünülmeye mahkûm bırakmıştır. Bu bağlamda genel olarak mekân ve karakter sorunu üzerine yoğunlaşan bu tezde bir esere yönelik geliştirilen yorumların hep aynı istikamette olması "yönlü okuma" olarak ifade edilmiştir. Yönlü okumalar eseri ehlileştirmeyi amaçlayan bir kontrol mekanizmasına dönüşerek romanın anlamını sınırlar. Romanın anlamının belirlenmiş sınırlarının ötesine geçebilmek için "yönsüz okuma" anlayışına sahip olunması gerekir. Tezde bu yorum-lama anlayışına paralel olarak romanın yazarı Peyami Safa'nın "sentez" fikrinin hakikiliği sorgulanmış, romanın kurgulaştırılma niyetinde ve yönlü yorumlamaların algılama biçimlerinde gerçek bir sentez ülküsünün olmadığı ileri sürülmüş; Doğu ve Batı, tip ile karakter arasında ayrıştırmaya gidildiğine dikkat çekilerek aralarındaki hiyerarşik düşünce tarzı, "ergon-parergon" kavramları üzerinden tartışmaya açılmıştır. Merkezileştirme çabalamalarında açığa çıktığı gözlemlenen "silme ve yeniden yazma paradoksu" da ayrıca detaylandırılarak Doğu ve Batı'nın, tip ile karakterin aslında ayrıştırılamaz şeyler olduğu, mevcudiyetlerinin birbiri üzerine kurulu olduğu iddia edilmiş-tir. Bu anlamda romanın anlamının çoğaltılabilmesi için yönsüz bir yorumlama anlayışıyla Doğu-Batı karşıtlığı yönünün dışına çıkan, romanın farklı veçhelerine yönelmeye çabalayan bir noktaya uzanmaya çalışılmıştır.

In literary research, it is seen that Fatih-Harbiye interpretations are generally shaped by East-West dichotomy and even this reading aspect becomes a dominant interpretation. In this one-way understanding of criticism, the place and characters in the novel are seen as representatives of the East and West, which are often considered in the context of contrast outside the novel, condemning them to be schematically thought through an understanding based on sharp binary contrasts. In this context, in this thesis, which focuses on the problem of place and character in general, it is expressed as "directional reading" that the interpretations developed for a work are always in the same direction. Directional readings become a control mechanism aimed at taming the work, limiting the meaning of the novel. In order to go beyond the defined limits of the meaning of the novel, it is necessary to have the understanding of "non-directional reading". In parallel with this understanding of interpretation, the authenticity of the "synthesis" idea of the novel's author Peyami Safa was questioned, and it was suggested that the novel intends to be constructed and that there is no real synthesis ideal in the perception of directional interpretations; East and West were discussed through the concepts of "ergon-parergon", the hierarchical way of thinking between them, noting that there was a separation between type and character. The "paradox of erasure and rewrite", which was observed to be revealed in the centralization efforts, was also detailed and it was claimed that East and West, type and character were actually indistinguishable things, and their existence was built on each other. In this sense, in order to reproduce the meaning of the novel, it has been tried to reach a point that goes beyond the direction of East-West dichotomy with a non-directional interpretation approach and strives to move towards the different aspects of the novel.
