Elastic energy per unit length of dislocation in an infinite cubic and hexagonal medium

Abstract

A detailed calculation of the elastic energy of a straight dislocation in a cubic and hexagonal crystal was made by using the numerical methods. For various orientations of the dislocation line and its Burgers vector, the numerical results are presented for glide dislocations in copper and zinc. It is concluded that the slip planes of lowest elastic dislocation energy are (<(11)over bar 0>) plane of Cu and (0001) plane of Zn.
